As Thanksgiving 2008 approaches, here’s several things to be thankful for, especially in today’s world:

* The fact that we Americans made a difference in this Presidential election year, by getting Barack Obama into the White House — and hoping that he’ll truly make a difference over the next four years (and perhaps the next four years after that).

* The fact that our country hasn’t been the target of terrorist attacks — at least this year.

* The fact that our country and the rest of the world hasn’t given up trying to get back on a somewhat stable financial footing, considering the economic crisis that’s now staring us in the face.

And on a more personal note …

* The fact that my mother hasn’t totalled her new car since getting it back in July — though that might change by year’s end (and of course, I could be wrong — but you never know).

* The kind support of everybody (including my family) who came to the aid of both my mother and I following our car accident back in May — including the local doctors and physical therapists who helped nurse me back to health.

* And finally — though Mother and I didn’t do all the things that we wanted to do in 2008, the fact that we’re still alive to enjoy life is more important than even the simpliest of pleasures.

Here’s hoping that your Thanksgiving is just as great as mine will be.
